The Law graduate who was turned away from the Abuja venue of Call-to-bar last December has been finally called to bar on Tuesday.
Amasa Firdaus, generated serious controversy after the story emerged online that she was sent away from the International Conference Centre venue because she was refused to remove her hijab.
Hijab is a head covering worn in public by some Muslim women across the globe.
Amasa had described the action as “a violation of her rights, adding the hijab does not violate the dress code set by the law school but was a mere convention that the British gave to us and we have to stick to it.”
Her name was the 788th on the new list of lawyers called to the Nigerian bar by the Council for Legal Education on Tuesday morning.
Amasa's case was reviewed and she was finally called to the Nigerian bar following several criticisms and calls for a review of the dress code during the call-to-bar.
I guess congratulations are in order right here, so Congratulations Ms Amasa.
